About Me

I am a nuclear physicist particularly interested in the structure of nuclei involved in the creation of elements when stars explode.

Current Teaching

I am on sabbatical until September 2012.

Current Location

I am most likely to be at Saint Mary’s, but I will be travelling and out of the office often. Feel free to email me at the address at the left.

I am a physicist interested in problems in nuclear structure.  Lately, problems in nuclear structure have been looking exactly the same as problems in nuclear astrophysics, so I am also a physicist interested in problems in nuclear astrophysics.  Nuclei have internal structures just like atoms or molecules.  Nuclei reach their ground states from excited states by gamma-ray emission or by internal conversion, or by particle decay.  I am primarily a gamma-ray spectroscopist, but I am also interested in what can be learned from other products of nuclear reactions.

If you are a physicist considering graduate school and think that nuclear structure topics interest you, I would love to hear from you.  Drop me a line: austinATapDOTsmuDOTca.
